For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

And there will be other lives for fathers walking daughters down aisles. And there will be other lives for sweet babies with skin like milk. And there will be other lives for a man you don’t recognize, for a face in the mirror that is no longer yours, for the funerals of intimates, for shrinking, for teeth that falls out, for hair on your chin, for forgetting everything. Everything. Oh, there are so many lives. How we wish we could live them concurrently instead of one by one by one. We could detect the best pieces of each, stringing them together like a strand of pearls. But that’s not how it works. A human life is a beautiful mess.

A look, a laugh, a smile, a second passes by and I regret it. Words just aren’t right. Sometimes I just can’t explain all the ways you devastate me.

I think all of us want to feel something that we’ve forgotten
or turned our backs on, cause maybe we didn’t realize how
much we were leaving behind, we need to remember what
used to be good. If we don’t, we won`t recognize it even if
it hits us between the eyes.
